Dr. Madeleine Verhovsek is an Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology and Thromboembolism at McMaster University, the Director of the Adult Hemoglobinopathy Program at the McMaster University Medical Centre, and the Chief of Medicine at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
She completed specialty training in Internal Medicine and Hematology at McMaster University, followed by specialized training in Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia in Boston. In addition to clinical work, she is the Consultant Laboratory Hematologist for the Red Cell Disorders Laboratory, Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program.
Dr. Verhovsek has worked to establish SCD clinical guidelines with the American Society of Hematology, the European RARE-Best Practices group, the Canadian Haemoglobinopathy Association, and the Ontario Ministry of Health. She is passionate about health equity, advocacy, mentorship, and capacity building.
