Jane Cordy is a senator representing the province of Nova Scotia. Prior to her appointment to the Senate of Canada, she taught elementary school in Nova Scotia for 30 years. She shifted her passion for children and education into advocacy and awareness in her work as a Senator.
Her interest in Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Awareness began at an information breakfast for parliamentarians hosted on Parliament Hill in 2013 by the Sickle Cell Association of Canada. Since then, she remains an advocate in Ottawa for Sickle Cell Awareness. She has been active with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Atlantic Canada, the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario, and the National Association.
