Karen Fleming has been a nurse for 21 years completing her Masters of Nursing in 2011 and her Masters of Science in Healthcare Simulation in Dec 2021 and will be starting her Masters of Public Health with a Black Health focus in 2024. She currently works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Red Blood Cell Disorders Program at UHN. She is 1 of 2 CNSs in our nation. Karen is an advocate for and a believer in the power of simulation to change mindsets and behaviours, so looks for ways to incorporate simulation into her educational designs for healthcare providers.
Her most recent accomplishments are the creation of a virtual escape room for Emergency Room residents where they solve clues to help solidify their knowledge of Sickle Cell Disease, creator of a virtual simulation game for ED nurses that incorporate implicit bias identification, and is the lead for the SCAGO Sickle Cell Education Program for Healthcare Providers.
