Beatrice Kahenya is a Nurse Practitioner at William Osler Health System, Adult Sickle Cell and Thalassemia program, where she works closely with Dr. Andrew Binding. She originally attended the University of Toronto where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She later pursued the innovative Master of Science in Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care (NP-PHC) specialty at York University in 2011. Over the last 12 years, she has worked as an NP in various care settings primarily in acute and complex pain management with cancer and palliative care patients.
She currently specializes in the care of patients living with sickle cell disease and thalassemia at Brampton Civic Hospital. At BCH, you will spot her at the sickle cell outpatient clinic passionately discussing vaso-occlusive pain & complications prevention, disease control and also see her at the emergency department and inpatient wards managing acute sickle cell pain episodes and associated complications when they unfortunately occur.
Beatrice is an active member of several professional organizations & committees including the Canadian Hemoglobinopathy Association, the nurse practitioner association and interest groups of Ontario, and the Black Health working group in Osler. In her free time, Beatrice enjoys spending time with her husband and their 2 teen daughters. She also particularly enjoys gardening and practicing yoga.
