Patient Advocate
Sherman Moore was born on the beautiful island of Barbados in the Caribbean and was brought to Toronto by his parents at the age of 13. He completed his high school and post -secondary education in Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University and a diploma in Computer Programming from Humber College of Applied Arts & Technology.
Sherman spent much of his work life in sales, initially in the insurance industry and then spent many years in the IT industry in sales and sales management. He is now retired and is the proud father of 3 sons. He is married and lives in Mississauga.
For the past several years, Sherman has volunteered in the sickle cell community, most notably with Camp Jumoke (a local charity that sends children with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) to summer camp each year) where he served as Fundraising Director for more than 5 years.
He is fully committed to the cause of making life easier for those with SCD and would like to see, if not a cure in his lifetime, at least more varied and effective preventative treatments, and the implementation of a standardized treatment protocol and comprehensive care for all SCD patients at medical facilities throughout Canada – particularly those arriving at Emergency Departments in crisis.
Sherman Moore also has Sickle Cell Disease.
