Thank you for your interest in participating in the new research study, “COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in the Sickle Cell Disease/Black Community: At the Intersection of Ethno-racial and Chronic Disease-related Factors”. If you identify as Black or have a diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease, then we want to hear from you.
This research study consists of an online survey and a focus group session. Participants may take part in one or both parts of the study. Both the survey and focus group will inquire about COVID-19 vaccination status (that is, whether you have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or not) and factors involved in your decision to take, or not take, the vaccine.
Consent to Participate
To participate in the study, we will need to confirm your consent to provide your information. Please begin by accessing and completing the consent form available here. Please read the form completely and, if you agree to give your consent, please sign where indicated. Your participation will be totally anonymized, meaning that no one will know what your answers are or be able to link your responses to you or to your email address.
Survey Questions
Once you’ve completed the consent form, you can begin the survey. (Click here to begin). The purpose of the survey is to help us understand the reasons that you have been vaccinated or have not been vaccinated against COVID-19. Follow the instructions on each page, then select the answer that applies to you and your experience. The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
Focus Group
There is also an opportunity to participate in a focus group as part of this study. During the focus group session, the research team will have an open discussion with you and other participants in order to best understand the reasons for or against vaccination among individuals making up Sickle Cell Disease and the Black community. The focus group may take place virtually/online or in person at selected sites. These focus groups will last for up to 90 minutes for each session.
