Nia Navarro is an emergency nurse out of Toronto General Hospital, and a founding member of the UHN Emergency Department sickle cell working group. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University and has been a guest lecturer at the COSTAATT School of Nursing in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Over the last decade, she’s worked in a range of emergency settings: managing the nursing activities with MSF on the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh, medically transferring patients around the world as a flight nurse, and working in the Cleveland Clinic’s Emergency Department in Abu Dhabi.
Nia is currently working in remote First Nations communities in Northern Canada. She believes in the profound healing that could come from the decolonization of the structure of healthcare. Who’s workers are in service and partnership with communities building autonomous self-determined agendas for their health and healing.
