Karen Fleming
HCP Education Coordinator
Karen Fleming is the Professional Practice Leader for Nursing at North York General Hospital and has a background in pediatric nursing for over 19 years. Karen has been an advocate for and partner with patients diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease since the young age of 12.
As a former volunteer with Camp Jumoke, SCAGO, and the SCDAC, Karen is proud to now hold a position in the organization that allows her to continue advocating for individuals with sickle cell disease in ways that directly impact the care they receive. As adjunct faculty at UofT, Karen is also looking for ways to include SCD education in the undergraduate and graduate nursing curriculum.
As the Education Coordinator at SCAGO, she will be responsible for the development and implementation of an education plan for healthcare providers, patients, families, and our community partners to improve access to care that is equitable, comprehensive, and individualized.
