A former Diplomat, as head of mission, accredited to Canada, Ms. Gumbs proudly served her community while fulfilling a varied and challenging mandate.
She is a certified adjudicator and also a special advisor of a Canadian university, with responsibility for government and institutional linkages in the Caribbean She has been involved and continues to serve in several community organizations. She’s served as Honorary Co-Chair of The University of the West Indies Toronto Benefit Gala, President, Tropicana Community Services and is a passionate supporter of the Sickle Cell A community for many years – initially through her support of the Grenada Sickle Cell Association, the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario and then in her role as Chair – Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada.
She is a Trustee of the National Scholarship Fund of the Black Business and Professional Association and also sits on the board of Tarragon Theatre. A committee member of the SeroMARK Immunity Project, a research study that uses seroprevalence to understand the extent to which the Black community is impacted by COVID-19, she also serves as a community member of Canada’s Vaccine Confidence Advisory Network – PHAC.
She is the recipient of several community recognition awards – a testament to her unwavering commitment to community building/upliftment including, the BBPA Harry Jerome Award for Advocacy, Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario Award of Excellence, Grenada Consul General Independence Award and is one of the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women of
2016.
A graduate of Ryerson University, she serves on the Advisory Council for the Department of Public Administration and Governance at Ryerson University and is also the recipient of a Ryerson University Alumni Award of Distinction.
