Disease Management

Disease Management: As part of the holistic health approach, SCAGO established three programs provided below to help manage the disease most effectively.

  • Learning for Life (LFL) workshops and seminars: This is an educational program with the expected outcome of promoting adherence to the prescribed treatment, improving psychosocial and emotional well-being, reducing feelings of isolation, stigma, and related mental stressors, and empowering families in self-advocacy
  • Meet & Greet (M&G) at local hospitals: This program currently holds at the Hospital for Sick Children to ensure new families attending the hemoglobinopathy clinic are aware of the SCAGO and the resources the organization offers.
  • Peers and Families (P&P) Support Network: This is a safe and non-judgemental space for peers and their families to meet and support one another.
