Join the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario and its partners including the McMaster Hospital, SickKids, University Health Network, and London Health Sciences Centre for the Sickle Cell Disease Summit 2022.
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, approved by Continuing Professional Development, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. You may claim a maximum of 7.5 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
This year’s summit will feature two days of presentations and panel discussions around equitable care and treatments for SCD similar to other diseases. Participating stakeholders (in Canada and globally) are healthcare providers, patients, caregivers, health system leaders, health policymakers, government officials, researchers, advocates, and industry partners!
After participating in this two-day program, participants will acquire knowledge in multiple topic areas and have a better understanding of:
- Impact of racism on sickle cell disease
- Ways that community members and healthcare providers can address stigma and other barriers to care
- Current curative treatments in sickle cell disease
- Hyperhemolysis: what it is, how to treat it, how to prevent it
- Organ failure in sickle cell disease in different countries/settings
- Mental health and sickle cell disease
- Digital and behavioral interventions in sickle cell disease- using technology to improve health outcomes.
- Quality standards for sickle cell disease for utilization in their clinical practice; and the ability to adapt existing care protocols to their clinical setting
The theme for this year’s summit is “Delivering Equity in Sickle Cell Disease”
